“LOS ANGELES (AP)—Kobe Bryant  has waited a year, a long year, for another chance at NBA title. He’s not about to let this one slip away.

The Olympic gold medal was nice. Not nearly enough.

He covets another golden trophy.

“I just want it so bad, that’s all,” Bryant said. “I just want it really bad.”

Bryant, playing like a man possessed, scored 40 points and the Los Angeles Lakers, who have waited nearly one year for a chance to erase bitter memories of a Boston beatdown and a championship they felt belonged to them, pounded the Orlando Magic 100-75 in Game 1 on Thursday night.

This year, nothing short of a 15th title will do for the Lakers.

And with the sensational Bryant out front, they may be on their way.”

“BANGKOK – Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series “Kung Fu” who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room.”

The Recruit Teams Don’t Want June 1, 2009

Lance Stephenson #1 of the East Team in the 2009 McDonald's All American Men's High School Basketball Game (Doug Benc/Getty Images)

“His stock has fallen farther than General Motors. Once the most-hyped recruit in the country, Lance Stephenson enters June without a school, without much hype and with many in recruiting circles saying he’s not worth the trouble. This begs the question: Does anybody still want Lance Stephenson?

Steve Yanda asked as much in The Washington Post this morning. It’s partial hyperbole — of course somebody will still take Stephenson, but for a guy whose college choice commanded national attention two months ago, Yanda argues that the suitors are far less in number than they once were. It’s not as much where Stephenson wants to go, but which program will take him.

The questions aren’t about Stephenson’s game, but about the off-court issues. He seems to be the guy that every coach would rather be somebody else’s problem. Between the pending criminal charge, questions about amateur status and the general sense that where Stephen goes drama follows, he just might not be worth it. Gary Williams, for instance, is desperate to sign a big-time national recruit. Will putting up with a possible Stephenson-headache be worth it for next season?”

 Honda Fuzo Concept

http://www.roadandtrack.com/gallery.aspx?section_id=7&section_prefix=features&webtrends_section=features&article_id=8101&window_id=1&gallery_id=1954&page_number=1&seq=2&slide=on&gallery=yes&cid=164&cnt=2

“French industrial and automotive designer Jonathan Mahieddine has created quite a stir on numerous popular tech-oriented websites with his Honda Fuzo, a futuristic design for a flying car.

The young, creative designer envisions the Fuzo as a lightweight and sturdy vehicle — thanks to extensive use of Kevlar, carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes — that would be capable of traveling through the air at a top speed of 350 mph, thanks to four powerful turbine engines. It would also be able to take off and land vertically, like Britain’s famous Harrier jump jet and the U.S. military’s own V-22 Osprey. What’s more, upon landing, the Fuzo would extend its retractable wheels and tool around town like a normal automobile.

Other elements Mahieddine envisions for the Fuzo are a GPS system that not only guides the car to its predetermined destination but also communicates with other GPS-enabled vehicles for collision avoidance. Additionally, airbags would be placed both inside and outside of the vehicle to both minimize injury to its occupants and cushion the blow to pedestrians or non-GPS-equipped vehicles.

Is this flying car a glimpse at what our future automobiles will be like? Mahieddine tells us that the Fuzo was a design he submitted to Honda last year when he applied for a position with the Japanese automobile manufacturer. Honda — or another car manufacturer — would be wise to hire this visionary; perhaps his bold thinking is just what the automotive industry needs to move toward a brighter future.”
